How to choose your cellar door.
Our cellar access doors can be divided into three types:
Glass Doors are always motorised due to the weight of glass. These feature laminated, walk-on glass and a stainless steel frame and can be operated by remote control or a wall switch.
Timber Doors are generally used in utilitarian areas or where a more economic solution is required. These doors are usually made with hardwood ply but other materials are available (oak is a popular option!). Timber doors can be motorised but are usually fitted with a flush-fitting squash court handle and lifting is assisted by gas struts which also lock the door in place when open. For added security a mortice lock can be fitted.
Tray Type Doors feature a stainless steel tray door designed to take your own timber flooring, tiles or even flagstones. They feature a stainless steel mesh within the tray to give your adhesive a good key and to ensure they stay in place over many years of operation. We recommend that these doors are fitted with a motor as they can be heavy, however smaller doors can be manually operated if preferred.

Recessed Doors are simply timber or tray type doors where the outer frame is reduced in height so that your flooring sits on top of the frame rather than butting up to it. The advantage of this is that the door installation becomes more discreet, with no frame visible and a more seamless finish. The downside of course is that tiled edges will be exposed and potentially more prone to damage when the door is open.
Installation can be carried out by our team nationwide or can be done by you/your builder. We supply our doors with fixing instructions and offer telephone support.
